Chatbots: human, too human.

What does the passive-aggressive personality of the Bing search bot say about Microsoft´s corporate culture?

Of the deluge of news and posts on #chatgpt , #bing , #bard and Co., the only story that has fired my imagination this week is that of the passive-aggressive personality of the Bing Bot, bordering on insulting its most critical users, the evil 'beta tester' journalists, when caught in the act of giving wrong or disputable answers.

Thought number one: 'human, too human'. After all, everyone - except Socrates and a few other humble thinkers, and it did not end well for most of them - always wants to be right: including chatbots and machine learning trainers.

A slightly deeper second thought came just after (imagine me tongue-in-cheek and with a raised eyebrow): 👉 a chatGPT-Bot can do much, much more than us lying humans, to reveal the corporate culture it comes from.

This passive-aggressive Bing attitude could be a revealing mirror of Microsoft culture (I ask, not accuse.. never worked with them). And what happens then, if the many of us who now shove tons of brand guidelines, corporate culture documents, and briefs into ChatGPT eventually get 'revealing' results in form of badass bots?

I'll make it short. Friends, Romans, country(wo)men, communicators, and marketers, lend me your ears! This is my appeal to you!

Watch yourself when experimenting with ChatGPT. Uncomfortable truths about your corporate culture may come out.

Or, is that exactly what we need, a mirror reflecting the extent to which our values manifestos are actually lived? Until next time, keep experimenting!
